I have an extensive tree dating back to the 1800. I am mainly researching Josiah Pelley (b.1800) in Newfoundland, Canada who married Elizabeth Dorrington (b.1821) on May 13 1843. Josiah is my 3rd great grandfather. I have not found any information (birth or death records) on a Josiah Pelley in Newfoundland or Nova Scotia that shows who his parents are. I also searched England with no results. Story is told to me that the Pelley family came from Dorset, England.

The Pelley/Pelly Genealogy Family Tree
Some people say that Josiah Pelley born 1768 and Judith Hughes are the parents of Josiah Pelley born 1800 but I have searched and found no proof of it anywhere.
In the 1881 and 1891 Canada Census, it shows Josiah living with his son Thomas & Esther.
This is the information I have on Josiah:
JOSIAH PELLEY was born about 1800 in Hants Harbour, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. He married Elizabeth Dorrington, daughter of John Dorrington and Catherine McGee on May 13 1843. She was born on October 20 1821.
Josiah Pelley lived in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1881. He was affiliated with
the Wesleyan Methodist religion. His nationality was English. He was employed as a Farmer.
Notes for Josiah Pelley:
Apparently he came from Newfoundland to Nova Scotia.
Possible first names: Josiah or Joseph or a combination thereof.
On the death certificate of his son Levi, it lists Levi's father as Joseph Pelley of Newfoundland.
In the 1876 marriage certificate of his son John to Elizabeth it lists John's father as Josiah.
In the 1881 Census of Canada it lists a "Josiah" living with his son Thomas.
In the 1891 Census of Canada it lists a "Joseph" living with his son William.
Josiah Pelley and Elizabeth Dorrington had the following children:
i. JOSEPH JOSIAH PELLEY was born on October 03 1847 in Guysborough County,
Nova Scotia, Canada. He died on March 09 1928 in Guysborough County, Nova
Scotia, Canada. He married Mary Elizabeth Meades, daughter of Jeremiah Meades
and Margaret Armsworthy on July 05 1869 in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia,
Canada. She was born on September 15 1846. She died on November 22 1914.
ii. JAMES PELLEY was born in 1850 in Guysborough, Nova Scotia, Canada. He married
Anne Brodie, daughter of William Brodie and Rachel Brodie on November 16 1885
in Guysborough, Nova Scotia, Canada. She was born in 1843 in Guysborough,
Nova Scotia, Canada.
iii. THOMAS V. PELLEY was born on December 22 1852 in Guysborough, Nova Scotia,
Canada. He died on December 24 1922. He married ESTHER CATHERINE MEADES.
She was born on October 15 1862 in Queensport, Guysborough, Nova Scotia. She
died on July 29 1942 in Sunnyville, Guysborough County, Nova Scotia, Canada
(Died of Cardiac Failure.).
iv. JOHN PELLEY was born on February 18 1853 in Guysborough, Nova Scotia,
Canada. He died on December 10 1917. He married Elizabeth Hushard, daughter
of James Hushard and Mary Coste on December 26 1876 in Guysborough, Nova
Scotia, Canada. She was born in October 1859 in Guysborough, Nova Scotia,
Canada.
v. ELIZABETH PELLEY was born on May 15 1855 in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia,
Canada. She died on October 16 1919.
Elizabeth Pelley was buried on October 18 1919 in Guysborough County, Nova
Scotia, Canada.
vi. LEVI PELLEY was born on September 18 1858 in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia,
Canada. He died on February 16 1926 (Died of influenza.). He married (1) SOPHIA
JOHNSON, daughter of Joseph Johnston and Lucy Johnston on November 28 1887
in Guysborough, Nova Scotia, Canada. She was born in 1856 in Guysborough,
Nova Scotia, Canada. He married LUCI MENTIS.
vii. HARVEY PELLEY was born on September 10 1863 in Sunnyville, Guysborough
County, Nova Scotia, Canada. He died on December 12 1946 in Sunnyville,
Guysborough County, Nova Scotia, Canada. He married (1) LUCRETIA JANE
DORRINGTON, daughter of Isaac Archibald Dorrington and Louise Ann Edwards on
December 25 1916 in Sunnyville, Guysborough County, Nova Scotia, Canada. She
was born on July 08 1876 in Sunnyville, Nova Scotia, Canada (Twin of Sophea).
She died on March 01 1949 in Sunnyville, Guysborough County, Nova Scotia,
Canada (Bronchiectasis). He married MARY PELLEY. She was born in 1863.
viii. REUBEN PELLEY was born on July 10 1866 in Guysborough, Nova Scotia, Canada.
He died on October 03 1922. He married Georgina Mintis, daughter of Frank Mintis
and Lucy on April 01 1916 in Guysborough, Nova Scotia, Canada. She was born on
October 15 1870 in Guysborough, Nova Scotia, Canada.
ix. ALBERT PELLEY was born on September 25 1867 in Guysborough, Nova Scotia,
Canada. He died on May 03 1915 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He married
CHARLOTTE PELLEY. She was born on October 02 1877.
